Sticking to a new habit or replacing old ones can seem impossible, after having the same routine for months or even years. But there's a few hacks that you can utilise to change that forever.

1- Make it obvious
Make the habit obvious. A very simple way to ensure you're always reminded to complete the habit or prevent an old repeating an old one.
Example: You want to start going for a run, so what may cause friction between you and running? Having to get out of bed, find your running gear, have a snack, fill up a bottle of water. This can seem like a lot of effort which may result in you deciding to have a few hours in bed.
Solution: Set the alarm away from the bed so you must get out of bed to turn it off. Set your gym clothes out the night before. That will save time rummaging around in the morning looking for them. Keep a water bottle in the fridge. Most people's first instinct when they walk in the kitchen is to open the fridge. By leaving that water bottle out ready increases the chances of you drinking it.
2- Start small.
Start small. It can seem like a complete lifestyle change, changing habits. However, it doesn't need to be anything drastic. Having 1 less coffee per day, adding a piece of protein or fruit to each meal, or running just 1km to begin with.
These small adjustments won't seem like a lot at first, but with time, it will make an enormous difference to your life. Just like the law of progressive overload in the last blog, the body adapts to these changes, then gradually as the small change becomes a habit, you can progress and increase the frequency of the habit or duration over time to reach your goals.
3- Rewards
We all love prizes! Find some kind of reward for completing your habit or breaking the old one. Make sure this is something unrelated to the habits so you don't interfere with the habit itself. For example, if you wanted to save your money, don't reward yourself by spending money. There's plenty of things you could do, like gaming or maybe a sweet treat from the snack drawer. Do this on a monthly basis, if you complete your habits for 30 days consecutively, then you reward yourself. By doing it only a monthly basis, it will keep you consistent and allow the habit to become second nature.
